TAIPEI, Taiwan — EVA Air (長榮航空), Taiwan's premier international carrier, unveiled plans Monday for a strategic code-sharing agreement with Air Macau (澳門航空) set to launch next week. The partnership will strengthen connections between Taiwan's major airports in Taoyuan and Kaohsiung and the autonomous region of Macau, offering travelers enhanced scheduling options and simplified access. Passengers utilizing this new arrangement will gain streamlined connectivity to mainland Chinese destinations through Air Macau's established network.
EVA Air's Vice President Liao Chi-wei (廖至維) characterized the arrangement as both a strategic business alliance and a fulfillment of customer needs, highlighting how it will create more flexible travel options across the Greater Bay Area's key urban centers of Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen. His counterpart at Air Macau, Vice President Chang Yun (張允), expressed similar enthusiasm, emphasizing that the code-sharing initiative will substantially enhance their service portfolio while delivering increased convenience to passengers. Chang also pointed to recovering travel demand as a catalyst that makes this partnership particularly timely for capturing emerging market opportunities.
The alliance combines substantial existing operations from both carriers, with EVA Air currently maintaining 21 weekly flights connecting Taoyuan and Kaohsiung with Macau, while Air Macau operates a more extensive schedule of approximately 42 weekly flights linking Taoyuan, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Macau. Their combined services represent more than 70% of all flights operating in the Taiwan-Macau corridor, giving the partnership considerable influence over regional air travel patterns and potentially reshaping competitive dynamics in this important market segment.
