TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Tourism Administration (觀光署) will host the 2025 World Bird Fair (世界賞鳥博覽會) this Thursday and Friday at Taichung's Civic Plaza (市民廣場), welcoming representatives from over 25 countries. The international gathering will feature the World Bird Ecotourism Experience Session (世界賞鳥生態旅遊經驗談), a forum designed to facilitate global exchange on successful bird fair models, sustainable birding tourism strategies, and critical conservation initiatives. The event positions Taiwan to showcase its rich biodiversity and growing commitment to ecological tourism on the world stage, authorities said on Monday (March 17).

The international engagement extends beyond the immediate fair, with foreign birding enthusiasts scheduled to explore Taiwan's renowned Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area (大雪山森林遊樂區) in September. This follow-up expedition aims to spotlight Taiwan's exceptional birdwatching opportunities and strengthen the island's reputation as an ecotourism destination. Preparations for the fair have been meticulous, with the World Birdfairs Council (WBC), representing 16 member nations, having recently conducted a preliminary visit. Tourism Administration Director General Chou Yung-hui (周永暉) personally welcomed the delegation and arranged an exploratory trip to the ecologically diverse Baguashan (八卦山) region.

Director General Chou emphasized the strategic significance of securing this international event, noting that ecotourism has emerged as the dominant post-pandemic travel trend worldwide. "This represents a watershed moment for Taiwan's tourism sector," Chou remarked, positioning the World Bird Fair as a pivotal platform to showcase the island's commitment to environmental stewardship. The tourism chief views the exhibition as an ideal vehicle to accelerate Taiwan's development of sustainable tourism practices while capitalizing on growing global interest in nature-based travel experiences.

Industry observers consider the upcoming fair transformative for Taiwan's ecological tourism landscape. The event promises to deliver dynamic programming featuring expert panels, interactive displays, and field demonstrations that highlight Taiwan's extraordinary biodiversity. For both international participants and local attendees, the fair will facilitate meaningful dialogue on conservation challenges while establishing Taiwan as a premier destination for responsible wildlife tourism in the Asia-Pacific region, reinforcing the island's growing reputation as a leader in sustainable travel practices.
