TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan has captured the top spot as the world's most budget-friendly travel destination, according to a recent analysis by NerdWallet, an American financial advisory company. Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) seized on this recognition Monday (April 28) to extend an invitation to international tourists, touting the island's distinctive combination of high-quality experiences, efficient public transit systems, cultural diversity, and affordable prices. The minister's remarks reflect Taiwan's growing ambition to increase its profile in global tourism markets.

The NerdWallet analysis, authored by travel writer Benjamin Din, highlights several practical advantages for American visitors, including visa-free entry to Taiwan. Din's assessment emphasizes the remarkable affordability of daily expenses, with typical meals costing under US$10 (NT$324.80 at current exchange rates) and economical public transportation options including the MRT (Taipei's subway system). Food enthusiasts will find particular value in Taiwan's diverse culinary landscape, from traditional breakfast shops to vibrant night markets featuring local specialties like pineapple cakes and the internationally popular bubble tea.

The capital city of Taipei exemplifies Taiwan's tourism appeal, offering visitors the architectural marvel of Taipei 101 — once the world's tallest building — alongside easy access to lush national parks and therapeutic hot springs via the city's comprehensive transportation network. Minister Chen emphasized that this distinctive combination of urban sophistication, natural beauty, and economic value continues to draw international tourists to the island. Taiwan's tourism officials appear optimistic that growing global recognition will translate into increased visitor numbers eager to experience the island's cultural heritage and diverse landscapes. ★
