TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Government (台北市政府) revealed Friday (May 16) that Jensen Huang (黃仁勳), the visionary founder and CEO of semiconductor giant NVIDIA, will carry the final torch at the 2025 World Masters Games opening ceremony. The highly anticipated international sporting event will commence Saturday evening at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋), the city's premier 40,000-seat stadium. Officials indicated that Huang has already shared inspirational messages with the participating athletes.

The organizing committee for the World Masters Games 2025, which spans both Taipei and neighboring New Taipei City, expressed profound appreciation for securing Huang's participation in the ceremony. Officials highlighted how his presence symbolizes the growing intersection between athletic competition and technological innovation, particularly emphasizing artificial intelligence's transformative impact on sports. According to the committee, Huang commended the senior athletes for demonstrating that passion and competitive spirit remain vibrant regardless of age, encouraging participants to embrace new challenges.

Event organizers disclosed that Huang personally enjoys table tennis and advocates for everyone to discover their own athletic passion. The committee acknowledged his pioneering role in the semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence development since founding NVIDIA in 1993. Under his leadership, the company revolutionized graphics processing unit (GPU) computing capabilities, transforming NVIDIA into a dominant force in artificial intelligence, deep learning systems, and advanced computational technologies that now power everything from autonomous vehicles to medical research.

Huang's exceptional leadership in the global technology sector has garnered prestigious accolades, including recognition from Harvard Business Review as one of the world's most effective chief executives. His selection as the final torchbearer represents more than ceremonial significance—it underscores the accelerating convergence of cutting-edge technology with athletic performance and sports development across all age categories. The choice highlights Taiwan's strategic positioning at the intersection of international sports and technological innovation. ◼
