TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's colossal multipurpose arena, the Taipei Dome, will serve as the centerpiece venue for the upcoming 2025 World Masters Games Taipei & New Taipei City (2025雙北世界壯年運動會), a major international sporting event for athletes over 35. Organizers have secured the participation of Taiwan's table tennis luminaries Chuang Chih-Yuan (莊智淵) and Chiang Hung-Chieh (江宏傑) as featured guests for the opening ceremony scheduled for Saturday (May 17).
Chuang, a former world top-ten ranked player, conveyed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to demonstrate his skills alongside amateur and youth athletes at the prestigious venue, describing the upcoming exhibition as "a meaningful experience." The veteran competitor aims to inspire participants with his enduring passion for the sport. Beyond his competitive career, Chuang operates the Chuan Chih-Yuan Table Tennis Training Center (智淵乒乓球館) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan's southern port city, where he focuses on developing promising young talent.
Chiang, who stepped back into his competitive role specifically for this showcase event, noted that interacting with amateur enthusiasts and young athletes had reignited his passion for competition. The popular sports figure recently completed filming for a promotional campaign highlighting how the World Masters Games offers participants a global platform to demonstrate their athletic commitment and fervor regardless of professional status. ◼
