TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The "2025 Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Equestrian Invitational" (2025深港澳台馬術邀請賽) commenced Friday (May 16) in Shenzhen's upscale Nanshan District in southern China, attracting 71 elite riders from across the Greater China region. Taiwan's young equestrians made a particularly strong impression at this cross-strait sporting event, demonstrating skills that drew attention from spectators and competitors alike.
Among the standout participants was Chang Tsuan-Chuan (張鑽銓), an 18-year-old rider from Hsinchu, a city in northern Taiwan known for its technology industry. Making his second appearance at the invitational, Chang exhibited exceptional composure throughout his performance. In a lighthearted moment, he attributed part of his competitive spirit to enjoying a traditional clay pot rice dish from Shekou (蛇口), a waterfront area in Shenzhen.
Veteran competitor Raven Ho (何玥霏) from Hong Kong, participating for her third consecutive year, noted that exchanges with Taiwanese riders consistently provide fresh perspectives. Ho indicated she would reveal aspects of her training regimen following the competition's conclusion.
The prestigious William Equestrian Center hosting the competition stands as one of six professional equestrian facilities in Nanshan District, reflecting Shenzhen's substantial investment in luxury sports infrastructure. More than 40 Taiwanese equestrian enthusiasts made the journey across the Taiwan Strait to attend the event, with many expressing admiration for the quality and scale of Shenzhen's equestrian facilities, which some noted surpass those available in Taiwan. ◼
