TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taoyuan International Airport (桃園國際機場) experienced a surge in outbound travelers on Thursday (May 29) as the Dragon Boat Festival (端午節) travel period reached its peak. Between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., the airport saw the highest number of departures, with an estimated 12,005 passengers leaving. This marks the beginning of a busy travel season expected to last until the following Monday, with over 687,000 people anticipated to pass through the airport.

Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (桃園國際機場公司) reported that although the average daily traffic last year was around 123,000 passengers, this year's daily average from January to April rose slightly to 130,000. The company assured us that operations would remain smooth despite the increased holiday traffic. The inbound peak is expected between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., with approximately 4,054 arrivals.

A traveler from Taipei, Ms. Chen, shared with the Central News Agency (CNA, 中央社) her plans to take advantage of the long weekend by flying to South Korea with friends. Her flight is scheduled to depart at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As travelers flock to the airport, officials remain vigilant in managing the flow to ensure efficiency and safety. Travelers should anticipate potential delays and plan accordingly, especially as the holiday progresses.
