TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese boxer Wu Shih-yi (吳詩儀) captured silver at the Thailand Boxing Open Sunday (June 1), marking another milestone in her impressive international career. The Olympic bronze medalist competed in the women's 57-kilogram division, showcasing Taiwan's growing presence in competitive boxing.
Wu faced a formidable opponent in Thailand's Punrawee Ruenros in the championship bout. Despite her technical skills, the judges awarded all five rounds to the Thai fighter, resulting in a decisive 0-5 defeat. Wu previously earned bronze in the women's 60-kilogram division at last year's Paris Olympics. This year, she made the strategic decision to compete in the lighter 57-kilogram category, demonstrating her versatility as an elite athlete.
Earlier this year, Wu dominated the prestigious Strandja International Boxing Tournament in Bulgaria, claiming gold in March. The victory established her as a serious contender in her new weight class on the European circuit. Wu's path to the Thailand finals included a notable victory over Priya, a promising 19-year-old Indian boxer.
