TAIPEI (TVBS News) — More than 3,100 former mainland Chinese nationals have successfully submitted documentation proving their renunciation of Chinese citizenship, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會), Taiwan's primary agency handling cross-strait relations, announced on Monday (June 9). The robust compliance rate signals a significant willingness among immigrants from China to adhere to Taiwan's legal framework for cross-strait marriages. Officials from MAC highlighted that an additional 2,000 individuals have sought alternative declaration options or timeline extensions, while the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF, 海基會), a semi-official organization that manages practical Taiwan-China interactions in the absence of formal diplomatic ties, has processed verification for more than 3,900 related documents.

To address ongoing questions and concerns, MAC has scheduled an informational session for Thursday (June 13) at 2:30 p.m. at the National Immigration Agency's (移民署) Taichung office, located in central Taiwan. The meeting will clarify policies outlined in the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area (兩岸條例), the primary legal framework regulating cross-strait interactions. Experts from multiple organizations, including the National Immigration Agency, the SEF, and the Chinese Cross-Straits Marriages Coordination and Promotion Association (中華兩岸婚姻協調促進會), a non-governmental support organization for cross-strait couples, will provide comprehensive guidance and offer consolidated services for attendees navigating the documentation process.

MAC has expanded its outreach initiative with two additional informational sessions scheduled for later this month in Taiwan's eastern region. The council will host meetings on June 23 in Taitung, a coastal city in southeastern Taiwan, and June 24 at the Executive Yuan Eastern Joint Service Center (行政院東部聯合服務中心), a government service hub representing Taiwan's cabinet in the eastern region. These strategic locations were selected to ensure accessibility for mainland Chinese spouses residing throughout the island. The comprehensive information campaign underscores the government's commitment to both enforcing immigration regulations and providing practical support for cross-strait families navigating Taiwan's legal requirements. ◼
