TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Typhoon Danas left severe destruction across Chiayi overnight. The Chiayi County Government reported that as of 10 a.m. Monday (July 7), flooding affected 20 areas, with nine roads closed. The storm resulted in 58 injuries and one death due to a traffic accident. Over 116 cases of damage to public infrastructure and utilities were reported, along with more than 80 fallen trees. Taiwan Power Company (TPC, 台灣電力公司) reported over 120,000 affected households.

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSR, 台灣高鐵公司) pointed out that the typhoon disrupted power lines between Chiayi and Tainan, halting three trains. Meanwhile, residents shared their experiences on Facebook, with one surnamed Huang describing debris and collapsed traffic lights on the roads.

The lack of natural barriers exacerbated the typhoon's impact, leading to severe wind damage. In Chiayi City, 10 people were injured and received medical treatment in one night. The storm toppled signs, trees, and motorcycles, and damaged various structures, including rain shelters and water tanks.

Typhoon Danas landed in Budai (布袋), Chiayi County, at 11:40 p.m. on Sunday (July 6), for the first time in 120 years. The powerful winds exceeded force 14, causing widespread damage across the region.
