TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Danas wreaked havoc across Taiwan, leaving more than 663,000 households without power. The Central Disaster Response Center (CDRC, 中央災害應變中心) reported as of Monday (July 7) afternoon that 407,000 households remain in the dark, with full restoration expected by Tuesday (July 8) night. The storm has resulted in 5,205 disaster incidents, causing two deaths and injuring 502 individuals, with Tainan City suffering the most damage at 2,444 incidents.

CDRC noted that 210 flooding incidents occurred nationwide, but the waters have receded. Major power outages persist in Chiayi, Yunlin, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. In Chiayi County's Budai Township (布袋鎮), a car accident occurred at 1 a.m. Monday (July 7), leaving one woman without vital signs and sending another woman and a man to the hospital with injuries.

 

Also, the center mentioned that water disruptions affected 73,487 households, with 242 in Lanyu (蘭嶼), Taitung County, still awaiting restoration. Telecommunications faced interruptions, with 12,278 landlines down and 3,931 yet to be fixed, expected to be restored by Thursday. Damaged telecom base stations total 1,305, with 832 pending repairs by Wednesday. The center stated that authorities evacuated 3,720 people across 11 counties and cities, with five counties establishing 22 shelters housing 180 individuals.

Furthermore, CDRC added that tourism has also been impacted, with 8,000 tourists stranded in Penghu (澎湖), 734 in Matsu (馬祖), and 536 on Green Island (綠島), though all have adequate food and lodging. Agricultural losses amount to NT$257.16 million, with Tainan City suffering the most significant damage at NT$210.24 million.
