TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei Asian Judo Open (台北亞洲柔道公開賽) will kick off Saturday (July 12) at the Taipei Gymnasium (台北市立體育館), with renowned judo athlete Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) serving as the event's ambassador. The competition will feature 193 athletes from 19 countries, including a strong 35-member delegation from Taiwan.
Taiwan aims to surpass its previous achievement of three gold, six silver, and 13 bronze medals, leveraging the home advantage to shine internationally. The Chinese Taipei Judo Federation (中華民國柔道總會) has organized two international judo events this summer, with the Taipei Asian Cadets & Junior Judo Cup (台北亞洲青少年暨青年盃柔道賽) following next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Organizers have crafted mascot pillows symbolizing the "roly-poly spirit" (不倒翁精神) as commemorative gifts for medalists. Liao Yu-jung (廖宇蓉), competing in the women's 70-kilogram category, expressed confidence in her current form and hopes to clinch gold on home soil.
As the event draws near, excitement builds among participants and spectators alike. The Taipei Asian Judo Open promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent and determination, inspiring future generations of athletes.
