TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Interior Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) issued a press release on Tuesday (July 8) that incorporating AI technology into Taiwan's increasingly complex sewer construction projects will significantly enhance quality and safety. She emphasized the importance of AI assistance amid a talent shortage in this critical infrastructure sector.
The National Land Management Agency (LMA, 國土管理署) from the Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) hosted a seminar to discuss AI's application in sewage construction, and awarded the evaluation for the annual sewer construction project. Liu noted that over three decades of collaboration between central and local governments have amassed valuable experience and data. She said that introducing AI technology will enhance project quality, inspection efficiency, and construction safety.
Liu noted that Taiwan had established 84 sewage treatment plants and seven reclaimed water plants, connecting over 4.1 million households by the end of April. The connection rate reached 42.18%, with a daily sewage treatment capacity of 4.46 million tons. Liu highlighted that integrating AI models and image recognition technology during the design and construction phases will gradually achieve intelligent operation and management of the sewage system.
Furthermore, Liu presented awards to the outstanding governments of Taoyuan City, Yilan County, and Chiayi City, encouraging all local governments to continue their efforts in water environment maintenance and sustainable resource recycling.
