TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) announced Taiwan's commitment to enhancing healthcare and food security with Haiti through cooperative projects during a meeting in Taipei with Haitian Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste on Tuesday (July 8).

President Lai emphasized the strong bilateral ties as the countries approach their 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. He acknowledged the fruitful exchanges in social security, education, and infrastructure between the two nations.

 

President Lai also thanked the Haitian government and Minister Jean-Baptiste for advocating on Taiwan's behalf in international forums, particularly the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Health Assembly (WHA). He expressed hope for continued mutual support and deeper cooperation, believing Minister Jean-Baptiste's visit will open new opportunities.

Minister Jean-Baptiste highlighted the robust friendship between the countries despite geographical distance and cultural differences, noting tangible achievements in agriculture, health, education, and community development. He stated that Taiwan plays a vital role in global cooperation, and amid the current global challenges, both sides need to unite and support each other to deepen bilateral relations.

 
Minister Jean-Baptiste also mentioned the mutual trust and respect underpinning the solid, friendly relations, expressing confidence in building a sincere, friendly, and sustainable cooperation model.
