TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) strongly condemned Thursday (July 24) a confrontational incident at the World University Games in Germany involving two Chinese individuals. The individuals attempted to forcibly seize a congratulatory telegram from Taiwan's Ministry of Education (教育部) and engaged in heated verbal exchanges with Taiwanese media representatives. Chiang emphasized that acts of violence and malice cannot diminish Taiwan's remarkable achievements on the international sporting stage.

Taiwan's taekwondo team had secured a prestigious silver medal at the international competition, which apparently triggered the confrontational incident. Mayor Chiang announced his intention to formally express stern condemnation to the Federation of University Sports of China (中國大學生體育協會) and the Chinese Communist Party (中共). The mayor emphasized the profound disrespect demonstrated toward Taiwan's dedicated team and accomplished athletes during this significant sporting achievement.

Chiang firmly reiterated that Taiwan's athletes' remarkable glory in international competitions remains completely untarnished by such disruptive incidents. The mayor provided strong assurance that Taiwan's people will unite collectively to safeguard their athletes' dedicated hard work and national pride. He underscored the unwavering support that Taiwan's sporting community continues to receive from citizens across the island. ◼
