TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's badminton star Chou Tien-chen (周天成) powered into the China Open semifinals Friday (July 25), dismantling Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn with a commanding 21-17, 21-11 victory in the men's singles quarterfinals. The world sixth-ranked Taiwanese player demonstrated exceptional defensive prowess that completely neutralized his opponent's attacking strategies throughout the match. Chou's tactical superiority and court coverage left the Thai shuttler struggling to find openings, securing Taiwan's representation in the tournament's final four.

Chou established early control by entering the first game's technical timeout with a decisive 11-5 advantage and sustained his commanding performance throughout both sets. The Taiwanese veteran emphasized his consistent competitive approach regardless of opponent, highlighting his defensive strategy as crucial against Kunlavut's youthful athleticism and court speed. This semifinal berth represents Chou's second Super 1000 tournament semifinal appearance this season, building on his impressive runner-up performance at the prestigious Indonesia Open earlier this year.

Kunlavut, who achieved the historic milestone of becoming Thailand's first badminton world number one in early June, has experienced a disappointing recent run of results. The Thai champion suffered an early first-round elimination at the Japan Open and now faces another setback with his China Open quarterfinal defeat. Chou will await his semifinal opponent from the remaining quarterfinal match between China's prominent players Shi Yu-qi (石宇奇) and Li Shi-feng (李詩灃), both formidable competitors in the international badminton circuit. ◼
