TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's historic Alishan Forest Railway (阿里山林鐵) suspended all operations Monday (July 28) for three consecutive days as dangerous southwesterly winds threaten passenger safety. Railway officials announced they will determine service resumption based on ongoing weather assessments and safety evaluations. The suspension affects one of Taiwan's most popular tourist attractions, forcing thousands of visitors to alter their mountain travel plans.

The Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office (阿里山林鐵及文資處) cited Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) Taiwan's national weather service forecasts predicting peak southwesterly airstream impacts from Monday night through Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is expected from Monday evening into Tuesday, with localized downpours threatening southern and central Taiwan on Wednesday. The weather service's warnings prompted immediate safety protocols across the mountainous railway network.

Affected passengers can obtain full ticket refunds within one year of their original travel date through multiple convenient channels. Refund processing is available at any railway station or through Taiwan's widespread ibon kiosk system located in 7-Eleven convenience stores nationwide. Railway authorities emphasized their unwavering commitment to passenger safety during severe weather events, urging travelers to monitor official reopening announcements before planning alternative mountain excursions. ◼
