NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) emphasized unity and progress during a ceremony for a new towing facility in Sanchong (三重) on Monday (July 28). Hou hoped President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) would lead the nation in healing post-recall divisiveness and aiming for societal peace.

Hou pledged New Taipei's commitment to advancing policies on livelihoods, the economy, elder care, and childcare. He vowed improvements in infrastructure and transportation to enhance residents' lives. He stated that the recall has caused societal division and hatred, consuming social mobilization costs, urging the public to move forward rationally.

Highlighting New Taipei's vast area, Hou outlined plans to allocate tax revenue, following revisions to the Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures (財政收支劃分法), for infrastructure development. He prioritized local needs such as road leveling, lighting, drainage, and sanitation.

Hou identified major transportation projects as the second focus, aiming to meet construction funding demands swiftly. According to Hou, the third priority involves expanding social welfare to support vulnerable groups.
