Kuomintang launches battle plan against 2nd DPP recall (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's main opposition party, the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨),  emerged victorious last Saturday in the first wave of recall votes. KMT Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) announced Monday (July 28) that they will launch a battle plan on Aug. 23, vowing not to yield any ground. The 2nd wave of political recalls will target seven KMT legislators in New Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Nantou, coinciding with the Taiwan People's Party's (TPP, 民眾黨) referendum on restarting the Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant (第三核能發電廠).

Chu pointed out that the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP, 民進黨) failure in last Saturday's recall vote reflects the public's expectation for a balanced opposition force. He said the KMT will respond with caution to the political challenges ahead. Chu emphasized that the DPP will attempt to divide society with malicious recalls on Aug. 23, and the KMT must stand at the forefront to protect democracy alongside opposition allies.

Chu stated he has convened major party departments to integrate propaganda, air warfare, and local organization, initiating regional defense to safeguard every outstanding fighter in the Legislative Yuan (立法院) Taiwan's parliament. He mentioned that the opposition must unite while the ruling party engages in internal strife. Regarding the "Restart Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant" referendum, the KMT will stand shoulder to shoulder with all allies, offering firm support for the energy initiative.

Chu urged that Aug. 23 is not just about recall offensives but a crucial battle to defend democracy in Taiwan's political landscape. He appealed to all friends concerned about Taiwan's future to rally into action against what he characterized as divisive tactics. The KMT chairman framed the upcoming political confrontation as a defining moment for Taiwan's democratic institutions and opposition unity. ◼
