TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Formosa Dreamers (福爾摩沙夢想家) announced on Tuesday (July 29) that team captain Douglas Creighton (簡浩) will retire after a distinguished 17-year professional basketball career. Creighton will transition directly to head coach for the upcoming season while planning a special retirement game. This milestone marks the end of one of Taiwan's most celebrated basketball careers in recent memory.
Creighton launched his professional journey in 2007, playing for prestigious teams including Pure Youth Construction (璞園建築), Bank of Taiwan (臺灣銀行), Taiwan Beer (台灣啤酒), Yulon Luxgen (裕隆納智捷), Jiangsu Dragons (江蘇南鋼), and the Formosa Dreamers. His illustrious career features six SBL championships, six All-Star selections, and a memorable 2012 three-point contest victory. These achievements established him as one of Taiwan's most accomplished basketball players.
Creighton accumulated prestigious accolades throughout his career, including the Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year awards. He proudly represented the Chinese Taipei team in international competitions, notably the Jones Cup and Asia Cup qualifiers. Since joining the Dreamers in 2021, he played over 140 games while sinking more than 200 three-pointers with an impressive average success rate of nearly 34%.
Creighton's composure and consistent perimeter shooting proved crucial during clutch moments in regular and postseason games. He became an irreplaceable asset and mentor, offering invaluable experience and humility to young teammates. Creighton expressed gratitude, stating this wasn't an easy decision but he is truly grateful to have ended his playing career with the Dreamers and thankful for the opportunity to continue contributing in a new role.
