TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ishikawa Prefecture donated 1 million yen (around US$6,757) Tuesday (July 29) to support southern Taiwan's recovery from Typhoon Danas, with Governor Hiroshi Hase leading the charitable initiative. The Japanese prefecture's contribution reflects deepening bilateral ties between Taiwan and Japan during times of natural disaster. This generous gesture demonstrates international solidarity as Taiwan continues rebuilding efforts in typhoon-affected southern regions.
Taiwan's Representative Lee I-yang (李逸洋) expressed profound gratitude while receiving the donation from Ishikawa Prefecture officials, describing the support as deeply encouraging for Taiwan's recovery efforts. Lee emphasized the enduring friendship between Taiwan and Japan, highlighting how both nations consistently provide mutual assistance during natural disasters including earthquakes and typhoons. The diplomatic exchange underscored decades of cooperation between the two countries in times of crisis.
Lee acknowledged Ishikawa Prefecture's ongoing earthquake recovery efforts on the Noto Peninsula, praising the region's warm support despite facing their own reconstruction challenges. An Ishikawa Prefecture official reciprocated the sentiment, recalling Taiwan's substantial assistance during the devastating Noto Peninsula earthquake last year. The official expressed hopes for swift completion of the peninsula's reconstruction and a return to normalcy for affected residents. ◼
