TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) revealed on Monday (Sept. 8) that Taiwan's job vacancies reached 276,000 as of late March, marking a 3.1% vacancy rate. The industrial sector accounted for 114,000 vacancies, or 41.3%, while the service sector held 162,000 vacancies, or 58.7%.
Manufacturing led with 92,000 vacancies, or 33.5%, followed by the wholesale and retail sector with 47,000 vacancies, or 16.9%. The accommodation and food services sectors reported 25,000 vacancies, or 9.1%, collectively making up nearly 60% of Taiwan's total job vacancies. Construction, medical care, and social work services each reported over 16,000 vacancies, with accommodation and food services showing a higher vacancy rate of 4.4%.
Full-time positions dominated, representing 253,000 vacancies, or 91.7%, while part-time roles comprised 23,000 vacancies, or 8.3%. Industries like construction, real estate, and manufacturing reported full-time vacancies exceeding 98%. Professional roles topped the list with 65,000 vacancies, or 25.7%, while machinery equipment operation and assembly roles followed with 60,000 vacancies, or 23.8%.
The ministry further indicated that recruitment periods typically spanned over one month to under three months, averaging 3.5 months. Sectors such as construction, transportation, and warehousing experienced longer recruitment times, averaging 4.4 months, with machinery equipment operation and assembly roles taking approximately 4.1 months.
