TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather agency, reported Thursday (Sept. 25) that Typhoon Bualoi (博羅依) will pass south of the Philippines without directly affecting Taiwan. The administration cautioned against dangerous swells expected Friday (Sept. 26) evening. Officials warned residents to avoid coastal areas during the anticipated wave activity.
Isolated showers will affect Keelung's north coast, eastern regions, Hengchun (恆春), and eastern Greater Taipei starting Thursday evening. Most areas will experience sunny to partly cloudy weather during the Teachers' Day long weekend, Taiwan's national holiday. The Pacific high and easterly winds will stabilize weather conditions, though high temperatures and strong winds remain risks.
Scattered convection over eastern seas will bring isolated showers to Taitung and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) Thursday. Western regions will reach 34 to 35 degrees Celsius (93.2 to 95°F) due to leeward effects. Eastern areas and offshore islands will see 31 to 33 degrees Celsius (87.8 to 91.4°F), while Greater Taipei and Taoyuan may hit 35 to 36 degrees Celsius (95 to 96.8°F).
Southern coasts and Hengchun will face dangerous swells Thursday, with similar conditions expected Friday evening through Monday (Sept. 29) along northern and eastern coasts. Orchid Island (蘭嶼) and Green Island (綠島), Taiwan's eastern offshore islands, will also experience hazardous waves. Recent rainfall in Hualien, Kaohsiung and Pingtung mountainous areas increased soil moisture, prompting officials to advise against mountain activities. ◼
