TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署), the island's meteorological agency, issued high-temperature alerts for eight counties and cities Friday (Sept. 26) as scorching heat grips the nation. Taipei City and New Taipei City face orange alerts for temperatures potentially reaching 38°C (100.4°F) or sustaining 36°C (96.8°F) for three consecutive days.

Six additional counties and cities — Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Taichung City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County — face yellow alerts with temperatures exceeding 36°C (96.8°F). Weather officials advise residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, apply sunscreen, stay hydrated, and employ cooling methods for both body and environment.

Scattered showers will affect Keelung's northern coast, Greater Taipei, eastern Taiwan, Pingtung, and Matsu, while other regions including offshore islands Penghu and Kinmen experience partly cloudy to sunny conditions. Saturday (Sept. 27) brings similar weather patterns with isolated showers in eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula, plus potential afternoon thunderstorms in southern and mountainous areas. ◼
