TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's government confirmed Thursday (Oct. 2) that a special NT$570 billion (around US$18.8 billion) budget plan faces legislative review within days. Executive Yuan (行政院), Taiwan's cabinet, spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) announced preparations for the proposal designed to strengthen economic resilience amid international challenges.
The Finance Committee (財政委員), led by Kuomintang Legislator Lin Szu-ming (林思銘), scheduled joint meetings Oct. 8-9 for budget review. The Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's parliament, will invite key officials Thursday (Oct. 3) including the premier and ministers from budget, finance, and economic affairs agencies to address legislative inquiries.
Article 9 of the special act mandates budget implementation within one month of announcement. The Executive Yuan (行政院), Taiwan's cabinet, pledged to expedite the process despite public expectations for cash distribution by late October, while legislative insiders predict early November timing.
The special budget allocates NT$236 billion (around US$7.8 billion) for direct cash distribution to alleviate public burdens. Committee approval Oct. 9 would trigger cross-party negotiations and three legislative readings before reaching presidential announcement through the Executive Yuan (行政院), Taiwan's cabinet. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$30.39).
