TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Matmo (麥德姆) poses no direct threat to Taiwan but could raise temperatures in the island's western regions, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's weather bureau, reported Friday (Oct. 3). The storm moves at 27 kph (16.8 mph) with its center positioned 330 km (205 miles) northeast of Manila and 740 km (460 miles) south-southeast of Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻).

Authorities warned vessels near the Philippines and South China Sea to monitor developments closely. Former weather chief Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) confirmed 21 typhoons have formed this year, matching climate averages. Multiple storms have tracked from the Philippines toward the South China Sea, following typical seasonal patterns. Cheng warned Matmo could elevate temperatures in Taiwan's western regions, urging residents to monitor weather updates.

The CWA advised vessels operating near the Philippines and South China Sea to track latest developments for safety. Maritime authorities emphasized the importance of monitoring storm progress despite Taiwan's minimal direct risk. Weather officials continue issuing updates as Matmo advances through regional waters. ◼
