TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan experienced its first northeast monsoon wave Wednesday, bringing brief showers to windward areas. Meteorologist Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇), Taiwan's weather forecaster, announced Thursday (Oct. 9) that some regions continued experiencing rain Thursday morning as the seasonal weather pattern established itself across the island.
Taiwan recorded its lowest Thursday morning temperature at 19.9 degrees Celsius (67.8°F) in Hsinchu's Guanxi Township (關西) and 21.0 degrees Celsius (69.8°F) at Hualien's Liyu Lake (鯉魚潭). Temperatures from northern Miaoli to eastern areas ranged between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius (69.8°F to 73.4°F), while daytime highs in Taoyuan, Greater Taipei, and eastern regions will reach 33 degrees Celsius (91.4°F).
Wu forecast suitable outdoor conditions during Taiwan's National Day holiday (Oct. 10-12), Taiwan's national celebration, but advised sun protection and heatstroke prevention measures. The continental high-pressure center moves eastward Friday (Oct. 10), weakening the northeast monsoon near Taiwan and creating summer-like weather patterns.
Wu cautioned about Typhoon Nakri (娜克莉) approaching northern Ryukyu Islands (琉球群島) and southeast Kyushu Friday and Saturday (Oct. 11). Taiwan will experience easterly winds next week with potential weak northeast monsoon Wednesday (Oct. 15) and Thursday (Oct. 16), followed by stronger northeast monsoon with possible frontal system next weekend (Oct. 18-19). ◼
