TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Northern and eastern Taiwan face scattered showers Friday (Oct. 10) while other regions enjoy mostly sunny skies. Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), the island's meteorological agency, forecasted varied weather across Taiwan during the Double Ten holiday weekend, Taiwan's National Day celebration, with weak northeast winds affecting conditions.

Daytime temperatures in central and southern Taiwan will reach potentially dangerous levels, hitting 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F) in some areas. Two typhoons, Halong (哈隆) and Nakri (娜克莉), currently track through the northwest Pacific, with Halong positioned south of Japan and moving northeast while posing minimal threat to Japan's mainland.

Scattered showers will affect the north coast, eastern Greater Taipei, and eastern regions from Thursday through Saturday (Oct. 11), while other areas experience mostly sunny conditions. Sunday (Oct. 12) through Wednesday (Oct. 15) brings similar patterns with isolated afternoon mountain showers, as the holiday coincides with annual high tides affecting coastal areas from New Taipei City to Taichung, plus Penghu, Kinmen (金門), and Matsu (馬祖), Taiwan's offshore islands.

Air quality forecasts show moderate diffusion conditions due to northeast winds, with pollutant accumulation expected in central and southern regions. Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu maintain good air quality while other areas remain moderate, except central Taiwan facing an orange alert. Experts advise monitoring weather changes and preparing for cooling trends as stronger northeast monsoon approaches later this month. ◼
