TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's weather bureau issued heavy rain advisories Monday (Oct. 27) for the capital Taipei and surrounding northern regions as the northeast monsoon brought intense precipitation warnings. The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) cautioned residents in Taipei City, Keelung City, New Taipei City, and Yilan County of potential localized downpours.

The northeast monsoon delivered cooler conditions across northern Taiwan, with temperatures dropping to 21-25 degrees Celsius (70-77°F). Taoyuan City and areas northward face brief shower possibilities, while offshore counties including Penghu, Kinmen, and Lienchiang expect mostly cloudy skies. Weather officials predicted intensifying rainfall throughout Monday across the Keelung North Coast, Greater Taipei Mountain Area, and Yilan.

Powerful winds battered regions north of Tainan City, Taitung County, the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), and offshore islands, with gusts exceeding Beaufort scale eight (62-74 km/h). The weather administration issued coastal activity warnings due to rough sea conditions affecting Taiwan's surrounding waters.

Air quality monitoring from the Ministry of the Environment (環境部) showed favorable conditions across Zhunan, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung zones. However, southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas received orange alerts indicating moderate pollution levels, contrasting with cleaner northern air quality. ◼
