TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued heavy rain and strong wind advisories Tuesday (Oct. 28) affecting millions across northern Taiwan as dangerous northeast monsoon conditions threaten the region. The weather agency warned of localized heavy rainfall targeting Keelung City, Taipei , New Taipei, and Yilan County, with residents urged to prepare for sudden downpours, potential landslides, falling rocks, and rapidly rising streams.

The CWA extended strong wind warnings to 18 counties and cities, including Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, and Hsinchu County. Officials predict sustained winds above level 6 (39-49 km/h) and dangerous gusts exceeding level 8 (62-74 km/h) through Wednesday night (Oct. 29). Authorities warned the powerful northeast winds could trigger yellow alert conditions, prompting safety advisories for outdoor activities.

Weather officials forecast short-term rainfall across northern and eastern Taiwan, with scattered showers affecting Tainan City, southeastern regions, the Hengchun Peninsula, Kaohsiung-Pingtung mountains, Penghu County, Kinmen County, and Matsu. The CWA issued safety recommendations for outdoor workers to secure loose materials, reduce driving speeds, and monitor potential public transportation disruptions. ◼
