TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U-Ming Marine Offshore (UMO, 裕民航運) announced a joint venture with the U.K.-based Purus on Wednesday (Oct. 29), marking a significant step in the Asia-Pacific offshore wind power market. The new company, UPO, aims to drive Taiwan's energy transition and sustainable development, according to UPO Chairman Hsu Kuo-an (徐國安).

Hsu emphasized that UPO represents more than just an equity partnership. This collaboration
was unveiled at the Wind Energy Taiwan 2025, marking a new chapter in international maritime cooperation and energy transition.

U-Ming Marine revealed that UPO has commissioned two state-of-the-art VARD 419 Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs), each 88 meters long and designed explicitly for Taiwan’s unique and challenging operating conditions. The company expects to begin delivery of these ships in 2027. Hsu highlighted the strategic advantage of leveraging Far Eastern Group's resources, U-Ming’s maritime expertise, and Purus’ offshore leadership and know-how, to bridge Taiwan with the green energy world.

This venture underscores a growing commitment to clean energy in the region, which may influence future projects and partnerships. As UPO moves forward, stakeholders will likely watch closely for further developments in Taiwan's renewable energy landscape.
