TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Malaysian police confirmed Sunday (Nov. 2) that singer Namewee (黃明志) faces charges in Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh's (謝侑芯) suspicious death case. Authorities discovered Hsieh dead in a Kuala Lumpur five-star hotel bathtub Tuesday (Oct. 22) and suspect someone moved her body after death. The case has triggered a criminal investigation drawing widespread attention across Taiwan and Malaysia.

Namewee reported the incident at noon Tuesday (Oct. 22), prompting police to discover nine ecstasy pills during their hotel room investigation. The singer admitted spending the night with Hsieh, a Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology (中台科技大學) nursing graduate. Hsieh gained fame as "Goddess of the Nursing Department" and collaborated with Namewee on his 2020 music video "China Reggaeton."

Namewee attempted to leave when police and medical personnel arrived, initially denying drug use during questioning. Subsequent urine tests revealed positive results for four different substances, contradicting his statement. Authorities filed formal drug use and possession charges in Kuala Lumpur's Magistrate's Court.

Hsieh's manager Chris questioned Namewee's account after discovering discrepancies between police reports and the singer's public statements. Chris initially received information that Hsieh died of cardiac arrest but later demanded answers about concealed information. The manager questioned whether Namewee forced Hsieh to consume drugs, raising serious questions about her death circumstances.

Namewee pleaded not guilty to drug use and possession charges in Kuala Lumpur's Magistrate's Court Thursday (Oct. 24). The Malaysian singer posted 8,000 ringgit (around US$267) bail and awaits his next court hearing on Dec. 18. The case will proceed with further legal proceedings. ◼
