TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) is closely monitoring Typhoon Fung-wong (鳳凰). The administration reported early Friday (Nov. 7) that it is positioned 2,270 kilometers southeast of Taiwan's southern tip, Cape Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻), predicting the storm will approach the Philippines' Luzon Island on Nov. 10 before possibly turning north and impacting Taiwan's weather.
An analysis by the Taiwan Typhoon Forum (台灣颱風論壇) reports that Fung-wong could intensify into a moderate typhoon as it nears Taiwan. They noted that whether the storm weakens during its northward turn would be a key factor. The CWA forecasted that Taiwan will experience increased rainfall in its northern and eastern regions from Nov. 10 to Nov. 12, with stronger winds and waves across the island.
Fung-wong's strength is growing, with the Taiwan Typhoon Forum comparing its size to that of the Philippines. The CWA advised residents to prepare for potential wind and rain impacts. The European Center (EC) and Google AI models, GenCast and FNV3, consistently predict that Fung-wong will turn north toward Taiwan, indicating stable trend judgments across models.
Despite the uncertainty in Fung-wong's future path, the Taiwan Typhoon Forum emphasized that storm's current path makes it very likely that Taiwan will be affected. They recommended early typhoon preparations for northern, eastern, mountainous, and coastal regions. The forum mentioned that Fung-wong will be closest to Taiwan from Nov. 11 to Nov. 12, likely impacting the island as a moderate typhoon if it is not sufficiently weakened by then.
