TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Five allied nations demanded Taiwan's inclusion in international climate governance Monday (Nov. 10) as the U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP30) opened in Belem, Brazil. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MOFA (外交部), expressed gratitude for the diplomatic support and emphasized Taiwan's commitment to collaborating with international partners on climate action. The allies spoke during the 30th Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini called for Taiwan's inclusion in the international community, underscoring the principle of leaving no one behind in climate action. Palau President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., emphasized that all partners, including Taiwan, need representation at climate negotiations, highlighting Taiwan's potential scientific contributions. Both leaders stressed Taiwan's importance in global climate governance during their COP30 addresses.

Marshall Islands Foreign Minister Kalani Kaneko highlighted his nation's long-standing advocacy for Taiwan's inclusion in the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, stressing all countries must participate in solutions. Saint Kitts and Nevis Environment Minister Joyelle Clarke stated climate action should not be exclusive, citing Taiwan's technological support for the Caribbean nation's electricity grid modernization. Both ministers emphasized practical cooperation over political exclusion in climate governance.

Tuvalu's Minister of Climate Change & Environment, Maina Vakafua Talia, identified climate cooperation as a priority, citing it as justification for including Taiwan in international forums. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed sincere gratitude to allied nations for their diplomatic support and reiterated Taiwan's willingness to collaborate closely on climate solutions. The diplomatic backing comes as Taiwan seeks greater participation in international climate governance mechanisms. ◼
