TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The strongest cold air mass since fall began moving south Monday (Nov. 17), with temperatures expected to drop to 12 degrees Celsius (53.6°F) in northern Taiwan by Wednesday (Nov. 19). The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) issued heavy rain advisories for Keelung's north coast due to northeast monsoon impact.
Hsinchu County's Guanxi Township (關西鎮) recorded 16 degrees Celsius (60.8°F) and Hualien County's Shoufeng Township (壽豐鄉) hit 17 degrees Celsius (62.6°F) Monday morning. Meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) noted the cold air had yet to fully arrive, causing warmer temperatures than expected. Localized rainfall already occurred along north coast and northeastern regions.
European weather models indicate rain will develop in northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan with gradually decreasing temperatures. Wu warned of heavier localized downpours along the north coast and northern mountainous areas. Tuesday (Nov. 18) will bring more moisture, causing brief showers in northern regions while central and southern areas remain comfortable.
Wu advised adjusting clothing as temperatures could drop to 12 degrees Celsius (53.6°F) in Miaoli and northern areas, with Taipei expecting 16-degree Celsius (60.8°F) lows. Brief showers will continue along north coast and northeast from Friday to Sunday (Nov. 21-23). The northeast monsoon will weaken by Nov. 23, leading to regional temperature increases. ◼
