TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taishin Securities Investment Trust (台新投信) successfully completed its major merger with Shin Kong Investment Trust (新光投信) Monday (Nov. 24), creating Taiwan's ninth-largest investment trust company. The significant merger resulted in combined total assets of NT$530 billion (around US$16.9 billion), marking a major consolidation in Taiwan's financial sector. This strategic move follows the July 24 consolidation of parent companies Taishin Financial Holding (台新金控) and Shin Kong Financial Holding (新光金控).
Thomas Wu (吳東亮), chairman of Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding, said the strategic merger aligns perfectly with the government's ambitious initiative to establish Taiwan as a leading Asian asset management center. The board elected Lai Chao-yin (賴昭吟) as chairman of the newly merged Taishin Securities Investment Trust to lead the combined operations. Lai expressed strong confidence in the company's significant potential to become a trillion-dollar investment trust and committed to achieving this milestone as soon as possible.
Lai highlighted the critical importance of expanding recruitment, launching innovative financial products, and developing comprehensive discretionary investment services for growth. Vice Chairman Lin Shang-kai (林尚愷) noted that the strategic merger will effectively integrate asset management and product development strengths. Lin explained that this significant move supports Taiwan's ambitious policies toward becoming a leading Asian asset management center and substantially enhances the company's asset management scale.
General Manager Yeh Chu-chun (葉柱均) shared that the company maintained a leading position in Taiwan's competitive money market fund sector with over NT$160 billion (around US$5.1 billion) in assets as of the end of September. Yeh assured that they will strategically leverage financial holding resources to provide quality services to clients. This achievement marks the company's impressive seventh consecutive year at the industry's forefront. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.4)
