TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A northeast monsoon brought cloudy skies and scattered showers across Taiwan Thursday (Nov. 27), Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) reported. The weather particularly affected areas north of Taoyuan (桃園), eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島). Sporadic rain also fell in southern regions, central mountainous areas, Hsinchu (新竹), and Miaoli (苗栗).
Rainfall probability remained high in northern Taiwan during the morning but decreased in the afternoon. Temperatures ranged from 16°C (60.8°F) to 19°C (66.2°F) in early morning and late evening. Northern regions, Yilan (宜蘭), and Hualien (花蓮) reached highs of 20°C to 22°C (68°F to 71.6°F), while central and southern areas, plus Taitung (臺東), hit 23°C to 25°C (73.4°F to 77°F).
The CWA issued a heavy rain advisory for Lanyu (蘭嶼) in Taitung County (臺東縣), warning of potential short-duration heavy rainfall from active convective cloud systems Thursday. The northeast monsoon will continue influencing weather conditions Friday (Nov. 28), keeping northern and eastern regions cool. Moisture will decrease, resulting in mostly cloudy to clear skies across affected areas.
Saturday (Nov. 29) and Sunday (Nov. 30), the northeast monsoon will weaken, allowing daytime temperatures to rise while mornings and evenings remain cool, the CWA forecast. Western regions will experience significant temperature fluctuations between day and night with mostly cloudy to clear skies. Only eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula will see isolated showers during the weekend period. ◼
