TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists anticipate a weather shift affecting Taiwan (臺灣) on Friday (Nov. 28). The northeast monsoon will bring cooler temperatures to the northern and eastern regions, with sporadic showers expected in the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) and central and southern mountainous areas. Wu Te-jung (吳德榮), a meteorologist, noted that the weather will improve as moisture moves eastward, resulting in sunny and stable conditions over the weekend.
Forecasts predict lows of 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in northern and central Taiwan and Yilan (宜蘭), while the southern regions, Hualien (花蓮), Taitung (台東), and Penghu (澎湖) will see temperatures between 18 and 19 degrees. Kinmen (金門) and Matsu (馬祖) will experience cooler conditions, with lows of 14 to 15 degrees. Daytime highs will range from 20 to 25 degrees across the island, with Kinmen and Matsu reaching 19 and 16 degrees, respectively.
Wu highlighted the radiative cooling effect, which could bring temperatures down to around 12 degrees in some lowland areas during the early morning hours. He advised residents to stay warm due to the significant temperature differences between day and night. The seas around Taiwan and the Bashi Channel (巴士海峽) will experience strong winds and high waves, with gusts reaching up to 10 on the Beaufort scale. As the continental high-pressure system influences the region, Taiwan will enjoy a stretch of clear, stable weather through Sunday (Nov. 30). Residents can expect gradually rising temperatures, offering a respite from the recent chill.
