TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A strengthening northeast monsoon brought showers to Taiwan's northern coast, Greater Taipei, and Yilan on Monday (Dec. 8), with temperatures cooling across affected regions. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) warned these areas could experience localized heavy rain. Daytime highs range from 21 to 23 degrees Celsius (70 to 73°F) in the north and northeast, with lows between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius (57 to 61°F).

Northern and northeastern regions will see cooler temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees Celsius (57 to 61°F), while other areas experience lows around 18 to 19 degrees Celsius (64 to 66°F). Mountainous and coastal areas may experience even lower temperatures.
Weather conditions will improve on Wednesday (Dec. 10) as the northeast monsoon weakens, with temperatures rising and moisture decreasing. Only the northern coast, Greater Taipei mountains, eastern regions, and Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula will experience scattered showers. The monsoon will strengthen again on Saturday (Dec. 13), bringing intermittent rain to windward areas while cooling the north and Yilan.
The northeast monsoon's influence will make temperatures noticeably cooler across Taiwan by Saturday (Dec. 14), according to weather officials. The northern coast, Greater Taipei mountains, eastern regions, and Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula will continue experiencing scattered showers throughout the period. CWA advised residents to prepare appropriate clothing and plan accordingly for the upcoming weather changes. ◼
