TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Independent filmmaker Li Chia-huai (李佳懷) premiered his documentary "Legend or Myth" on Sunday (Dec. 7) in Wufong District (霧峰), Taichung City. This film marks the final installment of his trilogy focusing on the history of the National Palace Museum artifacts hidden in the Beigou cave. Li began filming the series in 2013, personally funding most of the NT$3 million project.
The documentary explores various perspectives, including those of the landowner, historians, and the government. Li emphasized the historical significance of the Beigou cave, despite the site's inability to be revitalized due to landowner disputes. Li noted that the history of the Beigou cave is worth our attention. The Taichung City government designated the cave as a historic building in 2014 after local historians brought it to their attention.
Attendees at the premiere included Tsao Chung-yu (曹忠猷), director of the Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area Headquarters, and Professor Li-Hua Li (李麗華) from Chaoyang University of Technology. Tsao highlighted the historical value of the artifacts' relocation, suggesting VR and AR technologies could boost local tourism. Li praised Li Chia-huai's dedication and expressed intentions to enhance cultural development through academic collaboration. "Legend or Myth" is available online until Dec. 25, followed by a nationwide screening tour and discussions. Viewers can connect via the film's Facebook fan page for more information.
