TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Fubon Guardians (富邦悍將) signed outfielder Lin Shu Yi (林書逸) from CTBC Brothers (中信兄弟) on Monday (Dec. 8) to enhance team depth. The acquisition follows the recent signing of free-agent catcher Lin Dai-An (林岱安) last week, marking the team's second major roster addition. The moves represent a strategic effort to strengthen the Guardians' roster for the upcoming professional baseball season in Taiwan.
Lin Shu Yi brings nine years of major league experience to the Guardians after leaving CTBC Brothers, where he joined in 2016. The outfielder played 85 games in 2022 with a .293 batting average but appeared in only 12 games this season. Injuries and performance issues limited Lin's major league time in recent years, relegating him primarily to minor league play.
The Guardians target players not on protected lists to bolster their lineup for the upcoming season, having already identified potential candidates. Lin Dai An's signing last week marked the first free-agent acquisition in team history, demonstrating the Guardians' commitment to improvement. The catcher signed a seven-year player-coach contract valued at up to NT$56 million (around US$1.8 million), reflecting the team's aggressive approach. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.2)
