TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Officials announced plans Friday (Dec. 5) to notify the owner of an abandoned blue BMW Mini Cooper in Tainan's East District, a city in southern Taiwan. The owner faces police intervention if they fail to remove the vehicle from the public parking lot. The car has sparked local concern after remaining abandoned for months.
The vehicle's windshield holds dozens of faded parking tickets, some dating back to early 2025, highlighting the extended abandonment. Parking attendants continue issuing daily tickets to the abandoned vehicle despite its obvious neglect. Residents report the car has remained stationary in the public lot for over six months.
Officials discovered the car is an unregistered vehicle that hasn't undergone inspection for over six months. The vehicle is therefore unfit for road use, adding urgency to authorities' actions. The parking lot charges NT$30 (around US$0.96) per six hours, with the car's parking fees already reaching NT$22,000 (around US$707), excluding fines.
Chen Ying-chieh (陳英傑), head of the Tainan City Parking Management Office (停車營運科), stated officials will issue a formal notice to the vehicle's owner. The notice follows Tainan's outdoor parking fee management regulations, Taiwan's local parking enforcement rules. Chen noted the owner faces police intervention, forced relocation, and debt collection if they refuse to comply.
