TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (台灣電路板協會, TPCA) emphasized Tuesday (Dec. 9) the nation's critical role in the global AI server supply chain. The TPCA, collaborating with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (工研院產科所), released a report analyzing industrial shifts among top PCB-producing countries in East Asia. The report highlights Taiwan must bolster advanced packaging technologies to maintain its strategic position.
China, the world's leading PCB producer, held a global market share of approximately 34.9% in 2024. The report projected China's production value to grow to US$34.18 billion (around NT$1.06 trillion) in 2025, marking an annual growth rate of 22.3%. The TPCA pointed to China's rapid expansion in semiconductor and PCB industries, driven by AI advancements.
Japan ranks as the third-largest PCB producer globally, with production value estimated at US$11.53 billion (around NT$358.6 billion) in 2024. The report forecast an increase to US$11.82 billion (around NT$367.6 billion) in 2025 and US$12.35 billion (around NT$384.1 billion) in 2026. Flexible printed circuit (FPC) boards represent Japan's largest product category, accounting for about 51.3% of total production value in 2024.
South Korea, the fourth-largest PCB market, had a total production value of US$7.86 billion (around NT$244.4 billion) in 2024. Projections indicated an increase to US$7.94 billion (around NT$246.9 billion) in 2025 and US$8.16 billion (around NT$253.8 billion) in 2026. The report highlighted South Korea's PCB industry as highly concentrated in semiconductor applications, with substrates making up 45% of production.
