Hsiao addresses talent shortages at AI empowerment forum

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) addressed employment opportunities in the AI era during the 2025 AI and Youth Empowerment International Forum Tuesday (Dec. 9). She addressed concerns over talent shortages, emphasizing motivated and innovative youth have a place in the workforce. Hsiao stressed that Taiwan needs software talents to strengthen its capabilities.

Hsiao highlighted the government's commitment to supporting young people through educational initiatives. She noted vocational and university programs will include cross-disciplinary curricula, and the Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) has established five youth career development centers. Hsiao assured attendees that AI serves as a tool for advancing human progress rather than replacing professional expertise.

 

Hsiao stated that industries across the board are waiting for young people to step in and make their contributions. She emphasized young people actively exploring AI tools and new technologies amid innovation. Hsiao encouraged young people to have confidence in themselves as they navigate these changes.

Hsiao expressed optimism about AI's potential to enhance work efficiency and enable the younger generation to achieve work-life balance. She stated the government will continue to support AI-related competitions and activities, expressing confidence in the next generation's workplace competitiveness. Hsiao noted that Taiwan has long focused on hardware, and the software talent sector needs strengthening.

Hsiao addressed a recent incident involving a 24-year-old police officer in Yilan, a northern Taiwan county, who was severely injured by a van. The officer was on duty guarding Hsiao's motorcade when injured. Hsiao thanked the medical team and wished the officer a swift recovery. ◼
