TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City has completed dementia-friendly community networks across all 29 districts, serving more than 57,000 estimated dementia patients among the city's 790,000 residents over age 65. The city operates 66 dementia service centers, 14 dementia co-care centers, and approximately 5,500 dementia-friendly "guardian stations" to provide accessible support and care. Mayor Hou Yu-yi (侯友宜) stated in September that the city government has collaborated with 22 organizations to create supportive environments through sports, arts, and cultural activities.

New Taipei City organized an exhibition during World Alzheimer's Month in September to showcase the achievements of its dementia-friendly communities. The event facilitated exchanges among community care units, including hospitals and social groups, while highlighting their accomplishments. The exhibition served as a platform for sharing best practices and strengthening community ties among care providers.

A family member of a dementia patient has noticed significant improvements in their loved one's well-being after participating in community activities. The family member reported that her elderly relative has become more lively and optimistic, with increased interaction with the outside world. The positive changes underscore the impact of New Taipei City's efforts to create a dementia-friendly environment for elderly residents.

The city has enriched the lives of elderly residents through arts and sports activities across its 29 dementia-friendly community districts. With New Taipei City's population over age 65 exceeding 790,000, the government estimates more than 57,000 people suffer from dementia. The comprehensive network ensures that seniors receive necessary assistance and support within their local communities.

The city government aims to provide a safe and enjoyable life for elderly residents with dementia through comprehensive community support programs. The facilities aim to meet the local needs of elderly residents, providing them with accessible support and care close to home. ◼
