TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Taiwan University Hospital (台大醫學院) on Friday (Jan. 16) inaugurated a fully automated drug dispensing and delivery system at its century-old outpatient pharmacy in its west campus. This development marks a milestone in balancing advancements in medical technology with the preservation of cultural heritage. The new dispensary is meant to meet the hospital's high demand for outpatient services.
In a press release, the hospital reported that the new system can dispense nearly 3,800 boxes of outpatient medication daily, making it one of the highest-performing single-machine systems in the country. The hospital states that this capability effectively meets the high demand for outpatient medications while enhancing dispensing accuracy and medication safety.
The outpatient pharmacy, housed in a building recognized as a cultural heritage site, posed structural and spatial challenges for installing the automated dispensary. However, the hospital managed to introduce modern medical equipment without compromising the integrity of the historic building.
To ensure uninterrupted outpatient pharmaceutical services, the construction team adopted a strategy of maintaining operations during the day and conducting phased construction at night and on holidays. This approach facilitated the successful implementation of the system.
