TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Pingtung County Government (屏東縣政府) broke ground on Pei Yeh Park (北野公園) in Gaoshu Township (高樹鄉) on Friday (Jan. 16), investing NT$380 million to create a distinctive recreational and tourist park. The project, which features 77 tent and RV camping spaces, aims to complete construction by May next year.

Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi (周春米) emphasized the area's pristine water and air quality, coupled with picturesque mountain views, as key attractions. Chou said that to bring more people closer to Gaoshu and promote local agricultural products such as dates, taro, and pineapples, Pingtung is developing the park with a low-density approach to create a new tourism highlight.

Chou also noted ongoing efforts to enhance Gaoshu's urban landscape and infrastructure, building on the foundation laid by former Magistrate Pan Men-an (潘孟安). The county has widened roads and addressed flooding issues, including the Awu Drainage Project, which received attention from President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) two years ago. The central government approved the NT$400 million project, marking a significant step in flood prevention.

The county's Transportation and Tourism Department (屏東交通旅遊處) highlighted the diverse tourism model promoted by the Pei Yeh Park project. They stated that in the early planning stages, they had assessed water and soil conservation needs and engaged a hydraulic consulting firm for a comprehensive evaluation. The park will integrate cultural features of the Laonong River (荖濃溪) and has undergone multiple revisions before groundbreaking.
