TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Clarivate (科睿唯安) announced its "Top 100 Global Innovators" report on Wednesday (Jan. 21), recognizing the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI, 工研院) for the ninth consecutive year. ITRI set a record for the most awards received by a research institute in the Asia-Pacific region. Pei-Zen Chang (張培仁), ITRI president, highlighted the institute's international competitiveness in intellectual property.
Maroun S. Mourad, president of Intellectual Property at Clarivate, congratulated ITRI on retaining its position in the top 100 most innovative organisations for the ninth year. "Recognition as a Top 100 Global Innovator is a remarkable achievement given the pace of change," he said. ITRI's innovation and commitment to global patent protection have been outstanding and pivotal in Taiwan's industrial ecosystem, strengthening capabilities and competitiveness in crucial sectors.
Chang noted that ITRI's focus on three strategies — "consolidating talent, deepening roots in Taiwan, and expanding globally" — has enabled it to integrate cross-disciplinary R&D with universities and industry. ITRI has concentrated on key areas such as drones and robotics, transforming high-quality patent technologies into drivers for industrial upgrades.
Chang emphasized that ITRI's foreign patents are nearly twice those of its domestic ones, playing a crucial role in the global supply chain and helping Taiwanese companies secure strategic positions in international markets. ITRI intends to align its patent strategy with market demands, addressing industry pain points and future application scenarios to develop high-quality, industry-linked patents.
