TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A strong continental cold air mass continues to grip Taiwan, bringing frigid weather and lower-than-usual temperatures, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported on Friday (Jan. 23). Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) noted the cold front has weakened slightly, resulting in cloudy skies in northern Taiwan and brief showers in eastern regions. The cold snap has pushed temperatures significantly below normal levels across the island.

The CWA forecast clear and stable weather from Saturday through Sunday (Jan. 24-25) in western Taiwan, with occasional showers in Greater Taipei's eastern areas and the island's eastern regions. Temperatures will gradually rise, with Sunday's highs in the north reaching 22 to 24 degrees Celsius (71.6°F to 75.2°F) and 26 degrees Celsius (78.8°F) in the south. Wu advised residents to adjust clothing due to significant day-night temperature differences.

The CWA reported that Taiwan will enjoy clear, stable weather on Monday (Jan. 26), though mornings and evenings will remain cool. A northeast monsoon is expected on Tuesday (Jan. 27), increasing cloud cover in the north and east and bringing rain and falling temperatures. Cloudy conditions with occasional showers in the east will persist through next week, with another cold front arriving by next Saturday (Jan. 31). ◼
