TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather agency, expects a chilly weekend for Taiwan starting Saturday (Jan. 24). The influence of radiative cooling will cause colder mornings and evenings across the island. Regions such as the north coast of Keelung and the mountains of Greater Taipei will experience scattered showers, with a chance of heavier rainfall in some areas.
The CWA noted that the weather pattern persists, with sporadic showers expected in the north coast of Keelung, Greater Taipei's mountainous areas, the eastern half of Taiwan, and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula by Sunday (Jan. 25). The rest of the island will enjoy partly cloudy to clear skies. Conditions are expected to improve on Monday (Jan. 26), with most regions seeing partly cloudy to clear weather; only the eastern half and Hengchun Peninsula might experience isolated showers.
The CWA added that a cold front will pass on Tuesday (Jan. 27), leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures across northern and northeastern Taiwan. The northeast monsoon or a continental cold air mass will continue to affect the island on Wednesday (Jan. 28), keeping the north and northeast chilly. Other areas will also feel the cold in the mornings and evenings, with scattered showers occurring in the north and northeast, and isolated showers possible in the central, eastern, and southeastern regions.
The CWA pointed out that the northeast monsoon or a continental cold air mass will weaken by Thursday (Jan. 29), allowing temperatures to rise during the day. However, radiative cooling will still bring chilly conditions in the morning and at night. The administration predicted that the weather would remain mainly cloudy to clear, with isolated showers only on the north coast of Keelung, the eastern half of Taiwan, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
